Utokyo Forum 2013 in Chile was successfully held from November 7 to 8, co-hosted by Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC) and Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Chile.

Won the Gold Medal of the School of Science Image Contest 2013! |

The image contest of School of Science, UTokyo 2013 was held on 7-8 August 2013 at the open campus of UTokyo."The University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory and Starry night at southern sky" taken by Dr. Takahashi won the Gold Medal. This was fourth winning of the Gold Medal by TAO members. In addition,"Twilight on Atacama Salt Lake" by Prof. Doi won the Silver Medal, which made a brilliant achievement of simultaneous prizes on 2013. | |
Aug 5, 2013 SWIMS Science Workshop was held |

SWIMS is currently being evaluated its performance in a laboratory.
It is planned to carry out engineering observations on the Subaru telescope in 2015 and to see its first light on the TAO 6.5m telescope in FY2017.
In a science workshop held on Aug. 5th, various practical observation proposals using SWIMS have presented with highly anticipation toward SWIMS. more>>

Institute of Astronomy (IoA), School of Science, the University of Tokyo, and Institute for Cosmic Ray Research (ICRR), the University of Tokyo, have jointly offered the grant in aid of researcher overseas visits foundation (the institutional program for young researcher overseas visits) named gthe Observations of the Universe at the Global Facilitiesh for three years since 2010.

The construction budget for TAO 6.5 m telescope was approved by the govenment and things have started to proceed earnestly for
the construction! On July 3, based on the strengthening of the organization of TAO and the starting of the technical review meeting, we held an expert opinion reviews on TAO telescope. more>>

Dr. Shintaro Koshida who has been an active member of TAO since 2009, has assigned as a researcher to Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile since August 2012. We will present a report on his life in Chile and development of the near-infrared wavelength spectrograph and imaging camera which he has been working on. more>>

MIMIZUKU, the mid-infrared camera and spectrograph developed for the TAO 6.5-m telescope, aims for observing at the Subaru telescope next year and then starting science observations at the TAO telescope. Toward a full-scale construction of the TAO telescope, a workshop was held to discuss on sciences to be developed by MIMIZUKU. more>>

A planetarium "Multi-Taiken Dome", which is attached to the experience facility for children "Galaxcity", was renewed on April 1, 2013. In the facility, we can experience the starry sky at the summit of Co. Chajnantor where the miniTAO telescope is located! The Astronomical Society of Japan publishes the astronomical herald every month. Eight featured articles on the TAO project appeared in the issues of Jan. and Feb. 2013. In the January issue, several images about the history and the future of the TAO project were posted on the top gravure. Separate prints including all the articles were also made. | |
