Nov 7-10, 2016 "Chile-Japan Academic Forum 2016" was held in the southern Chile, Patagonia |

In Patagonia, Chile, the Univ. of Tokyo, Univ. of Chile and Pontifical Catholic Univ. of Chile hosted a Chile-Japan Academic Forum and workshops on 12 fields were held. Associate Professor Motohara from the TAO project organized a "Astronomy and Astronomical Instrumentation" workshop with 37 presentations, which gained popularity as the largest workshop in this Forum.

On October 17, 2016, members of Administration Bureau and School of Science of the UTokyo visited the TAO Base Facility and Summit Site. Prof. Yoshii, the PI of TAO, explained the current situation of the site and development of the project. The project has been coordinating with the bureau to prepare for the coming construction. | |
Oct 12-13, 2016 Members of TOYOTA 5 Continents Drive -Latin America- visited TAO |

On October 12-13, 2016, the team members of the TOYOTA Motor
Corporation's "5 Continents Drive Project" in Latin America visited TAO
on their way to their goal.
Since we have been using TOYOTA vehicles as our "partner" for about 15
years, it was a great opportunity for us to deeply and directly contact
with TOYOTA's technicians/engineers.

Jul 1, 2016 An exhibition of the TAO project was held in Chile |

The exhibition of TAO was held for one month from June 2, 2016, co-hosted by the Antofagasta Railway Museum and the Univ. of Antofagasta.
With the cooperation of the Japanese Embassy in Chile, the Univ. Catolica del Norte and the Japanese descendent community,
we held lectures, star gazing session, and Japanese culture lecture as well as exhibitions. more>>

SPIE is an international professional society for optics and
photonics technology. 2016's conference and exhibition was held in Edinburgh, Scotland.
We have made 9 oral and poster presentations of TAO.
In addition to disseminating the progress of TAO to the world,
we acquired various ideas for further improvement from researchers and engineers all over the
world.

Progressing of telescope and main components of TAO, the joint science workshop was held by Institute of Astronomy that is promoting TAO project with Department of Astronomy, the Univ. of Tokyo. Various scientific issues were proposed by Prof. Yoshii and Prof. Miyata from IoA and Prof. Totani and Prof. Sakon from DoA. It was a very meaningful workshop with expectation for the completion of TAO.

On March 16, 2016, the proposed session "Science Strategy of the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory" was held in the 2016 Spring Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of Japan. 20 presentations were given and covered a wide range of astronomy fields. Approx. 150 people attended the session and a very intensive discussion was made for the bright future provided by TAO.
