Two years have passed since the production phase in 2013, production designs of the main parts including the telescope proceed steadily. It is about time to decide the way of transportation, assembly and launch in Chile, in addition to adjustments in Japan. Graduate students of the Department of Astronomy, Kentaro Asano, Mizuho Uchiyama and Ken Tachiuchi were awarded the PhD degree, and
Soya Todo the master's degree, who were major development members of SWIMS and MIMIZUKU of the TAO 6.5 m

May 1, 2015 Succeed in predicting complicated wind behavior around the telescope enclosure in the collaborative study with Kyushu University and Environmental GIS Laboratory Co. Ltd. |

As a research collaboration with the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics (RIAM) at Kyushu University and Environmental GIS Laboratory Co. Ltd., a large-scale numerical simulation has been successfully performed to predict and visualize the complicated wind distributions around the top of Cerro Chajnantor including the telescope enclosure and the operation building.

On Apr. 23-24, 2015, Mr. Naoto Nikai, the Japanese Ambassador to Chile, visited the city of San Pedro de Atacama to observe the TAO Base Facility. He met Mayor Sandra Berna and two high school students who visited Japan in Nov. 2014 and experienced homestays for 3 weeks through the exchange program between San Pedro City and Adachi Ward, Tokyo. more>>
