Presentation in SPIE2014 in June 2014

The international conference on optics, SPIE (International Society of Optics and Photonics) was held at Montreal of The Province of Quebec, Canada on 22-27 June 2014, with an attendance of more than 2000.

The SPIE is an international conference held every two years mainly in USA and Europe alternately. The forefront of technology is presented there on observations/measurements including astronomy, such as optical elements, optics, detector, telescope, control system, and read-out device. Many sessions relating to astronomy are going on in parallel, including optical/infrared instruments in space, X-ray technics, instruments on the ground, submillimeter/radio instruments, and so on. Attendants are not only astronomers, but also engineers, people in manufacturer, project managers, etc.

Since 2008 we have presented the progress of TAO project at all SPIE. Please see the list of papers below.

This time (the fourth time of our presentations) is the first SPIE after the budget of the TAO 6.5 m telescope was approved. We presented 11 papers on the progress of the TAO 6.5 m telescope, incidental facilities, and instruments.

Many people were much interested in not only the outline of TAO project, but also the detailed developments of the instruments, and praised our developments as being very interesting and high-level. Moreover, they showed expectation to the completion of the TAO telescope. We had many questions about the the methods overcoming the difficulties in construction of the facilities and also access-road at very high altitude (5640 m) and hard circumstances with low temperature/strong wind. We got much useful information and advice on the explanations of our design policy to above questions from many scientists and technicians. The conference was much fruitful for TAO project.
