Internet Access

We will set an access corner at the next door of the conference room. Several TCP/IP ports with DHCP connection are available during the symposium. However, no wireless LAN is avaiable in the conference room. We will prepare a PC as a public terminal (although only one).

In both cases we cannot galantee access speed and fulltime connection. Please remember that Ishigaki island is far from the main island Japan.

Capacity

Due to the capacity of the conference room, the number of participants is limited to be about 150.

Accommodation

If your schedule is not fit our package tour, you can book a hotel via our travel agancy at the discount rate from two categories. One is Hotel Nikko Yaeyama, which is the symposium venue. The other is Sleep Inn Ishigaki-jima, which is 15 min walk from the symposium venue. Please check our web page link from here.

Access

To the Island: by air

Although there is no direct flight to Ishigaki island from outside Japan, connected flights from the Main Island Japan are available daily.

There are the following direct routes to Ishigaki from 2 major international airports and 4 major domestic airports in Japan. The international airports are Kansai (KIX) and Chubu (NGO). The domestic airports are Tokyo/Haneda (HND), Osaka/Itami (ITM), Fukuoka (FUK), and Okinawa/Naha (OKA).

To the Island: by sea

A ferryboad service can be available from Taiwan to the Island once a week. The timetable in March 2006 is the following.

Onc service per week from Taiwan to Ishigaki.
The service once goes to Naha and back to Ishigaki. 		Two services per week from Ishigaki to Taiwan,
although Sat/Sun service arrives at 6h Kaoshung

To the Main Island Japan

There are 3 major international airport in Japan; Narita(NRT), Kansai(KIX), and Nagoya-Chubu(NGO).

KANSAI international airport (KIX), is the international hub in Osaka area. There is one direct flight from KIX to Ishigaki (two flights per day, as of March 2006).

Narita (NRT) is the international hub in Tokyo area but there is no direct flight from Narita to Ishigaki. Therefore, you have to use a ground transport to Haneda (Tokyo International Airport; HND), which is the domestic hub in Tokyo area. It takes 2 hours by train or 1.5 hours by express bus (between train/bus stations at the airports). See this web page for detail.

Chubu International Airport (NGO) is the international hub in Nagoya area. There is one direct flight from Chubu to Ishigaki per day.

In the Island

Hotel Nikko Yaeyama and Sleep Inn Ishigaki-Jima are about 10 min by taxi from a domestic airport on Ishigaki island (Ishigaki Airport; ISG, link (of Okinawa Pref.)).

For your convenience a card of your hotel name printed in Japanese is available. (linked from here) Please show or give it to your taxi driver at the airport.

A public bus service is available from the airport to the hotel every 40 min from 08h55m till 19h35m. It takes 8 min and fare is 200 JPY from the airport to the hotel. The but timetable is here.(Written in Japanese. From the Airport to the Hotel you should read the lower table. The Airport is the 4th column or column labeled by red characters. The Hotel is the second rightmost column.)

Timezone

In the Ishigaki Island, we use the same standard time of the Main Island Japan. It is 9 hours ahead of UTC. ( 9 PM=21h in the local time is the noon of the same day in UTC.)

Weather

Ishigaki Island is a tropical resort island located about 1000 km south-west from the main island of Japan and surrounded by a coral reef and beautiful tropical beaches.

Visa

Symposium attendees from outside Japan are requried to have a visa issued from the Japanese embassy, although attendees from some contries/areas are not. Please see here in detail.
